I have a little bit of a stubborn streak…especially when it comes to inanimate objects. I’m not a hoarder, even though I do have a couple plastic containers full of old notes which I’m sure will come in handy some day.
I lost a friend this last week. My yellow four wheeler finally went to the Fourwheeler God aka as Bauerkempers. The ATV had finally racked up enough miles, and had been in the shop for the last time. The final straw was me having to walk down the road, battery in hand.
I was okay while doing the paperwork, and loading up the new ATV. Leaving Chadron without my yellow steed kind of got the better of me. The bike (we call them that on the ranch) has been my main mode of transportation for the last 8 years. Jazz’s first ride took place on the second day she was on the place. Ryan’s first trip to the ranch included sitting behind one of the “craziest woman drivers I’ve rode with” trying to escape a torrential downpour. I’ve made some of the biggest decisions in my life, prepped numerous speeches and presentations, and contemplated many of life challenges on the back of that bike. I felt like I had lost a close friend and confidant.
The new ride is awesome, I can’t convince myself to share my life’s story yet…but maybe someday. Ryan’s trying to talk me into a new pair of boots…I don’t carry on conversations with my current ones so I think I’ll be okay!
